KARACHI—Sindh Minister for Information, Shazia Marri and former Governor of Sindh, Moinuddin Haider will inaugurate the “Sana Omair Thalassemia Prevention Center” here on Thursday evening. The facility, first of its kind in the city, is equipped with necessary diagnostic and screening gadgets and manned by qualified professionals. It has been funded by parents of Pakistani thalassemic children Sana and Omair. NGOs including different registered institutions running efficient blood transfusion services and support scheme for thalassemic kids are also supporting the much needed facility in Karachi. Pakistan continues to have a significant number of thalassemic children due to indifference of the society towards an extremely relevant health issue affecting the children, their parents and the national economy too.
